Why User Experience Matters and How to Improve It

A lot of business owners are running marketing campaigns to send traffic to their sites, but their sites aren’t ready to receive that traffic. Without focusing on user experience you’re wasting the traffic you’re already getting and can end up wasting money and time.

Below we highlight why user experience is important, and offer a few ways you can improve user experience to get the most out of the traffic you’re currently getting.

Why User Experience Matters

Once you’ve put the effort into marketing your website via paid ads, content marketing, social media, or other methods, you need to make sure you’re actually capturing that traffic.

If you’re sending all that traffic back to a poorly designed website, then all the marketing in the world won’t save you. If you want to improve the dollar value you’re getting from each of your leads, then you need to focus on the design of your site.

The best way to do that: build a site that your user’s love.

How to Improve User Experience

Improving the user experience of your site will take a lot of work. You can build your site based on intuition alone, but the best kind of feedback will come in the form of data.

Below we offer a few ways you can improve the user experience of your site, so you can convert traffic into leads for your business.

1. Focus on Landing Pages

If you’re sending traffic to your site from a variety of sources, then you’re probably sending that traffic to specific landing pages. If you aren’t, then you need to start. A landing page will be separate from the rest of your site and relate to the original source of traffic while encouraging them to take a single very specific action.

If you have a well-designed landing page you’ll be able to increase leads and eventually sales to your business.

To design a stellar landing page make sure you have the following elements in place:

  • A clean and simple design
  • A header that speaks to where your user came from and a benefit they’ll get from signing up
  • Trust signals to build trust
  • Short amounts of text that speak to your visitor’s needs
  • A simple CTA

2. Design is Important

Once a visitor lands on your site you’ve already made it past the first hurdle, getting them there. Now, you need to keep their attention and hopefully get them to take action. To do this you need to have a design that encourages user’s to stick on your page.

This means you need to present your information in a clear manner, reduce or get rid of any ads, and have a single action that the entire page is designed around. If you give your visitors too many choices they won’t know what to do and will probably end up doing nothing at all.

It’s also important to keep your navigation simple. Think about how you can design your site so it guides users through your website. Where do they start and where do you want them to end up?

3. Don’t Forget About Mobile

Part of having a solid design is ensuring your site looks good and encourages visitor action no matter the screen size it’s viewed upon. First, Google will rank your site lower if it’s not mobile responsive. Having lower rankings will automatically decrease the amount of traffic your website gets.

Making sure your site has a mobile responsive design will ensure your visitors have a similar experience no matter the device they’re on. When designing for the mobile web it’s important that your design remains simple, on a mobile device you have much less space to work with, so each page will need to have a specific goal to encourage action.
